How’s your abundance mentality been lately?
If you’ve been following my blog for the past weeks, then you might know I’ve been doing a series on overcoming the notorious ‘scarcity mentality’ by replacing it with abundance thinking.
You might wonder why this is such a hot button topic for me, and the answer’s pretty simple: I’m passionate about helping people build the life and business of their dreams, and one of the foundations for success is making sure that your thoughts are on the right track. So long as you think of all the ways in which you won’t succeed, then you’re only serving to sabotage yourself. As the saying goes, ‘your attitude determines your altitude’.
Have you ever found yourself obsessing over worst-case scenarios and all the things that could go wrong? Those are symptoms of a scarcity mentality. Don’t worry: we’ve all been there. We might think good things happen to other people but not us, or that if someone achieves success, then it means there isn’t enough room for us to achieve it as well. Of course, these are all MYTHS that have no basis in reality. They’re things we tell ourselves so that we stay safely within our comfort zone.
The only problem with staying inside our comfort zone is that we sell ourselves short and keep playing small.
But chances are you’re done with playing small. You know what you want out of life, and you’re ready to get it. You’re done with the excuses and you’re done with the sabotage. You’re also done with the scarcity mentality.
That said, it might be time to do a little ‘spring cleaning’ when it comes to the type of content that you take in. Last time, we talked about what you take in as far as conversations and the vibes of the company you keep. Today, we’re addressing another type of content you take in: media.
Here are some questions to ask yourself, and some ideas to implement:
- Take an assessment of the types of TV shows and movies that you watch. Are they empowering you? Are they uplifting you? When you’re done consuming them, do you feel better about yourself or worse? That last question is particularly important. If you’re constantly watching media that makes you feel down about yourself and the type of life you lead, it’s going to create a breeding ground for a scarcity mindset. If you’re the type of person who watches the news 24/7, it can also start to internally affect your worldview and perspective. You might find yourself becoming more cynical. Be mindful of what you’re watching and start to introduce more encouraging programs into your lineup. You’ll be amazed by how differently you feel.
- The same holds true for commercials. Commercials are simply advertisements that try to convince you you’re lacking something in life. The more we’re hit over the head with this idea of ‘lack’, the more we feel like we’re living in scarcity. If you’re able to, consider recording your favorite shows and then simply fast-forwarding through the commercials so that you’re not brainwashed by advertisements that would make you think you’re missing out if you don’t have the latest gadget.
- What type of articles are you reading on the internet? Do you read the gossip blogs that only serve to tear down others? Don’t forget that one of the symptoms of a scarcity mindset is relishing the failures of others. Don’t fall into this trap. Instead, read blogs that help you develop yourself as a person. The more time you spend on developing mind/body/spirit, the more space you make in your life for creating healthy abundance.
So there you have it: three tips to help you cut the negativity and scarcity out of the content you take in. These are things you can start doing right now, too, so it’s perfect for flexing your abundance muscles. Remember: replace what you remove from your life with positive, uplifting, and empowering things instead. The more abundance you surround yourself with, the more of a magnet you become for all the good things you want in life.
And if you’ve been enjoying learning about the abundance mindset, I want to invite you to learn more about getting coached by me within my wellness team right here. I talk about abundance all the time as I help people build their dream businesses. I’d love to have you onboard!
