Are you counting down the days until 2017 yet?

This holiday season, my hope is that you and yours are able to share in wonderful, warm memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.

And maybe—just maybe—years from now, you’ll look back on these last few weeks of 2016 and be able to say that these were the moments when something in your life shifted.

After all, it’s the time of year for planning and goal-setting and vision-casting. You see calendars and planners in prime spots at the store. The New Year arrives with a sense of new beginnings and a fresh start. Motivation is at an all-time high as people begin to decide how they want their life to change moving forward.

And that includes deciding how they want to finally strive toward their dream life and reach new levels of success. These past few weeks, we’ve been making our way through a new series that revolves around planning for your success in 2017.

It may come as a surprise (or maybe not), but did you know that only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s Resolutions?

It’s pretty mind-boggling! It’s also unfortunate. Just imagine all the dreams that fall by the wayside every year, and how people are forcing themselves to live unfulfilling lives as a result.

As I’ve discussed throughout this series, I think that one of the reasons people fall short of their goals is simply due to lack of planning.

They don’t afford the proper amount of time toward reflecting on their goals, investing in their own personal development, creating timetables and deadlines, and then developing tangible action plans to get them moving forward.

It may sound like a lot, but that’s how people get things done. Entrepreneurs who’ve hit the 6-figure mark in their businesses didn’t just wake up wealthy one day. They had to put in the work behind the scenes to get to where they are today. They had to learn, they had to invest in the right tools, they had to surround themselves with the right people, and more!

Which leads us perfectly into today’s question: What kind of resources do you need to move forward with your dreams?

What do I mean when I use the words resources? Here are some examples:

  • Training (books, online courses, continuing education, webinars, etc.)
  • Mentorship (a coach, a teacher, a financial planner, etc.)
  • Community (masterminds, Facebook groups, associations, clubs, etc.)
  • Tools (software, web programs, apps, etc.)
  • And more!

A lot of the time, we don’t give much thought to the nook and crannies of actually realizing our dreams, and I think this is why so many people trip up on making them a reality. However, when you do the research and prepare yourself for what’s to come, you’re that much more able to get things done.

So today, spend some time reflecting on what you want to accomplish in 2017. Get a real clear vision of what it looks like and what it will require from you. Then consider all the different types of resources you’re going to need to get from Point A to Point B.

Do you need to invest in some books so that you can read up on your goal? Perhaps you might want to invest in some training from an expert or professional? Maybe it’s time you hire a coach and really give yourself some accountability.

Whatever it is, allow yourself to brainstorm everything that’s going to help you on your journey and what resources will be especially necessary. Then, over the next few months, move through your list one by one, gradually checking things off. With this strategy, you’re sending a clear message to your brain that you want to achieve your goals and that you have every intention of doing so.

Mentorship and community tends to be one of the biggest game-changers for people who are looking to create financial freedom in their life. Why? Because these things give you the ability to learn from the mistakes of others, which dramatically shortens your learning curve. What others spent years figuring out, you can know from the get-go. These kinds of valuable insights are priceless!

I know because I see people having a-ha moments all the time within my own team. It’s an amazing thing to witness.
